NOACs vs VKAs in Elderly Atrial Fibrillation Patients
27/06/2019
Compared with vitamin K antagonists, non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant use is associated with a better net clinical benefit in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation, primarily due to lower rates of major bleeding. Protection from cardiovascular events was also more prominent with the NOACs. NOAC utilization overcomes intrinsic limitations of VKAs that are highly prevalent in older populations.
